As the end of the year comes near, I realize I have a special Christmas gift- cash- that I don't need. Ah ha! Let's put it in the Roth IRA. Not only is a great gift for the future, come April 15, it will also be a tax write off.
(Do you have any fun money tips to share? If so, let me know so we can post them for others!)
Happy, almost, 2011!

Payday Friday
It was payday Friday so my minimal cash increased with my direct deposit influx of cash. However, since I have been enjoying this creating wealth challenge, I once again decided to take out $60 cash to see what creative adventures I could embark upon this week.
Weekends tend to hit me with lots of spending. This weekend, I spent $29 on gas and $5 on a haircut tip (got the cut for free with a gift card!). I have $26 left for the week. Today, I had lunch "out" for $5.50. I am now at $20.50.
We will see how the week goes. As of now I think I should be set!

Creating wealth = free milk!
Yesterday was a fun day in this creating wealth adventure. I had a free certificate to get a massage at St. Paul College, value $20. I wanted to be smart with a tip but not be cheap. Thus, I gave $5. My new total is $2. I think I am going to make it- tomorrow is payday.
Anyway, I also went to pick up my CVS prescription (on my health benefits card, so no out-of-pocket cost). When the cashier rang up my purchase, she said you have $5 in Extra Bucks (meaning I could spend this in the store). I perused the aisles and saw that Burts Bee’s face wash was on sale for $9.99. Nope, can’t buy that, I don’t have $4.99; more importantly, I didn't need it. Then, it occurred to me that I could get milk- for free! The $2.59 gallon was on sale for $2.19. This allowed me enough extra to "buy" two cup cake mixes (on sale for $1) and a 50-percent off Easter candy. My total purchase was FREE! Ha!
Finally, a co-worker followed up with me on editing his article. I also had a fun conversation about a new business idea- one that I could start anytime I want. Creating wealth is fun!

Business plan development
I have been taking a business plan development course. Last night was our final class. From my excellent professor, Bob Voss at Dakota County Technical College, I have learned so much! We turned in our final business plans last night and presented our ideas to the class. I am excited to see where my business goes but won't officially launch until June. Stay tuned!
(oh.. and no money spent!)

An opportunity to make money
Yesterday, on my quest to create wealth, I saw this unopened phone in our closet. For months, we have thought of selling this online. Last night, I created a post and put it on craiglist! We will see...
I also did one load of laundry- $1.50 to wash, $1.50 to dry. I am down $3 in quarters. New total- $7 cash, $7 quarters.

Creating wealth
I am embarking on an adventure this week to create wealth. Each day, I am going to find an opportunity to save money or make money outside of my regular paycheck. Some choices might be really simple or common sense but I hope some creativity comes into play!
To start, this weekend, I decided to take cash out of my bank account. I am only allowing myself to spend $60 this week. On Saturday night, I was going out to the MN rollergirls and had committed to spend $11 on the ticket. To save on funds, I ate at home and only had one beer while out ($6 with tip). I had to get gas for Easter festivities ($15- I only filled up enough for the week), and bring asparagus ($5). I bought lunch at the coffeeshop while studying ($6) and drank water to save on costs. I also got a roll of quarters for $10 to do my laundry.
Doing the math, we see:
$11 (ticket)
+ $6 (drink+ tip)
+ $15 (gas)
+ $5 (asparagus)
+ $6 (lunch)
+ $10 (quarters - not spent, yet)
------------
$ 53
I have $7 cash + $10 (in quarters) left for the week. We will see how this goes!
Oh, and having breakfast this AM, I realized we were out of milk. Looks like it is going to be a toast, oatmeal and eggs breakfast week!

Tax returns
Hello money saving fans!
I was filling out my taxes and found out that Turbo Tax online would charge $79 to file my tax return. Wow- that seemed pretty steep. I did some more research and found Tax Act- this allows you to fill out and file your federal tax return for free and charges $14.95 to file your state taxes. Thank you tax act for giving me back my $65 from Uncle Sam!

Save money on prepay cell phone services
I recently discovered prepay cell phone services. Two words- love it! It saves so much money with no hidden fees/ extra taxes. For each month, I know what my service fee will be, I know how much I will pay for the plan.
Before you buy, do some research and find which plan is right for you. Some offer unlimited minutes, Internet and/or texts. Be studious with your homework- some plans may not offer what you want. When I got my service, I wanted a plan with texting and phone minutes. I am very happy with this choice and even happier that no company "owns" me as a customer for a 2-year contract.
